"A Broken Fence after a Storm"

Alyia Cady

For twenty two years

It held up strong

A few minor cracks

But nothing too wrong

Along came a storm

That hit nobody else around

Piece by piece

Four walls came crashing down

“It’s such a wonder” they say

How a house so big still looks the same After thunder, lightning, and a tornado

But all they saw was the frame

The fence may have broken

The trees may have crashed

But all that really mattered

Was how much time had passed

The neighbors say just to rebuild

But they don’t know

How much time had been spent

Placing those pieces into something so bold

For twenty two years

It held up so strong

How could one major storm

Make a fence not belong
